“All you have to have is the vision and the right team to help you achieve it”

Having found their perfect block of land at Maungatapere, Marie & Derek then started the hunt for the perfect house to put on it.  Marie had a vision of a ‘Pioneer Cottage’ which “had to look like it had been there for 100 years”.  And that is exactly what she has achieved.  You really feel as if you have been transported back in time…

Having been through a friends house with a similar style and being impressed with the workmanship, they queried the builders’ name.  It turned out that he worked for Homeworld Design & Build whom Marie & Derek had built with 20 years ago!  So, it was back to Homeworld with their plans and ideas in hand, to see if they could make their dreams become a reality.

“Rod Langdon was great.  He listened carefully to what we wanted to achieve and assured me that they could help us.   I was very specific in what I wanted in my home, but not once did I feel like it was a problem.  Rob Bowers was our Project Manager and he was great too.  He was an excellent  communicator  and was very good at making sure that the builder and other tradesman achieved exactly what I wanted, even if it meant a bit of extra work from them”.

“As for the style, I soon realised th005at if you wanted to achieve a particular style, you had to follow it through with ‘everything’.  You couldn’t get away with putting modern fittings in this style of home.  I had lots of fun researching the ‘Pioneer Cottage’ style homes and fittings and enjoyed incorporating them into my new home.  Homeworld were very accommodating and worked closely with us to ensure we were all on the same track.  We love our new home and  I would definitely work with the whole team again.”

Looking through this home, you will notice that not a thing is ‘standard’,  with beautiful timber custom made vanities (which the owners sourced second hand and renovated) to pendant light fittings & switches, solid Kauri timber doors,  Kitchen Joinery by Geoff Hewinson (who is a true craftsman) and even the wallpaper was totally unique with different strips of coloured wallpaper all down the hallway to look as if it had been partially stripped back!  It just goes to show what a LOT of imagination and flexible builders can achieve together.  You don’t have to have a ‘run of the mill new house’.  You can put as much of your style and flair into it as you like.  All you have to have is the vision and the right team to help you achieve it…
