Energy Efficient Homes

There are different kinds of design features to make a Passive Solar Home function best and some of Homeworld’s are:

  1. Thickened East, South & West walls with maxed out levels of insulation and a dual layer of ceiling insulation to eliminate thermal bridging.
  2. There are thermal mass walls in selected areas.
  3. Thermally broken double glazed aluminium joinery
  4. Edge insulation to concrete floor to minimise heat flow in and out of the concrete floor.
  5. Polished concrete floors to allow maximum exposure to available thermal mass which helps stabilise temperatures throughout the year.
  6.  As one of the most efficient fires in NZ, Pryoclassic wood fire is  also linked to a wetback system.
  7.  New Zealand Pine is used for the framing and Bevelback weather boards.
  8. Your home will also have a solar power system, natural flow septic system, and domestic water system.

Since the land around Rengaru Solar Village was purchased, it has been regenerated to restore it to the natural ecosystems of the land. The internal roads throughout the village have been constructed to a high standard and the sideberms have been planted with native species to keep with the philosophy of the village and the farm.

Homeworld will be at the opening days at

Rengaru Solar Village
332-Komokoriki-Hill-Road

March 22 and 29, and April 5 – Hours 1 to 3

  1. All properties in Rengaru Solar Village will be self-sufficient in power, watersupply and sewerage disposal.
  2. With free power generation, each home has the ability to have comfortable, low-cost living without sacrificing any mod-cons.  You can heat your home and also charge your electric car.
  3. Natureflow provides a natural septic system that is Auckland council approved and requires no power and works on living worms.
  4. The solar village requires residents to install their own independent power system and most likely could be based on solar generation.
  5. The environment is our responsibility and living at Rengaru Village makes this easy for us to accomplish and also enjoy our lifestyle in our surroundings.

Standard materials can be used to construct an energy efficient home.  It’s more about how we use these materials and where to get the most control over the living environment.

Closer, tighter application of controls and use of materials to enable energy flow is the direction we went it to go.
